A module's position refers to its location on the web page.  A module position can usually be identified by its location outside the main content area where articles appear.  Each Joomla! template will have a different list of module positions.

Cassiopeia module positions

Cassiopeia is the template used for SAS unit websites.  Some of the most commonly used menu positions are:

Ccommonly used module positions in the Cassiopeia template: sas-branding, banner, sas-extension-top

Cassiopeia module positions: bottom-a; sas-extension

Module positions commonly used in the Cassiopeia template: sidebar-left

  • sas-branding - The position is located in the upper left corner of the web page and contains the Rutgers Logo module (to the upper left) and the Rutgers menu (to the upper right). No other modules should be assigned to this position.
  • banner - This position is reserved for the "Main Menu" that appears below the Rutgers Logo and above the slideshow, and spans the width of the page.  No other modules should be assigned to this position.
  • sas-extension-top - This position is located directly below the main menu, and spans the width of the page.  sas-extension-top typically contains the following modules:
    • a SmartSlider slideshow or a single image with aspect ratio 3:2.
    • a red banner that appears on the homepage and the main page of microsites
    • the "Rutgers Alerts - SAS Emergency Alert Message" module
  • sidebar-left - This position sits to the left of the article area. On most pages, a menu module will appear in sidebar-left.  You can have several modules in the sidebar-left position; they will stack vertically.  If there are no sidebar-left modules on a page, the article area will extend to the left side of the page.
  • bottom positions - Modules in these positions appear below the article area.  There are four "bottom" positions; these positions are named (from top to bottom) bottom-A, bottom-B, bottom-C and bottom-D. You can have multiple modules in each "bottom" position; they will sit side-by-side.
  • sas-extension - This position appears below the "bottom" positions.  It spans the width of the web page.  It is typically used to display a Latest News Enhanced module that has been configured to display images in three or more columns.  You can place multiple modules in "sas-extension;" they will stack vertically.
